Pursuing a Masters of Biology at Queens University to develop an understanding of internal nutrient cycling in plants and its effects on crop quality and performance.
Paper Disk Chromatography Investigation - A mostly qualitative assessment for soils and crops, the chromatogram creates a picture that can be assessed to determine the biological activity and quality of a fertilizer, compost, soil and crop.
Sap Tissue Testing - With support from the Carrot Cache the usefulness of sap testing tools to assess crop health throughout the season on local area farms was explored. The aim was to assess the usefulness of the tools and which practices are working at increasing crop health and nutrient density. Each sample is tested for ionic: Calcium, Potassium and Nitrate, Electrical Conductivity, pH and Brix. Over 250 infield samples were tested for over fifteen different crops.
Kingston Local Farms - Coordinating training to develop production and increase partnerships for a small group of producers in the region. Activities: 2012 - Southern Ontario Farm Tour, 2013 - Vermont Farm Tour, 2014 - Advanced Biological Production Workshop and In-Field Testing Tool Trials. This project was initiated to pilotLocal Food Marketplace software to provide an online producer controlled live inventory one-stop-shop for wholesale buyers in the Kingston region.
